Children from Pre-K (age 4) through 6th grade meet on Sundays during the school year from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday school classrooms are upstairs in Satterlee Hall. St. Alban's uses the Godly Play approach to help children explore their faith and develop a strong foundation.
Bible stories are told with objects and children are encouraged to enter into the stories and relate them to their personal experience. Sessions also include art, prayer, feast (snack) and gathering time.
For our 4th to 6th Graders, we adjust the Godly Play curriculum as as appropriate for older children. We develop greater biblical literacy, while incorporating more advanced art options as well as greater opportunities for movement and outreach.
2s and 3s class
A special class is provided for children ages 2 and 3. Sessions follow the basic pattern of Christian worship: we gather, tell Bible stories, share a feast/snack time, and pray. We have created special rituals around entering and leaving the room, beginning and cleaning up work, sharing snack and praying together that help the children grow more comfortable as a group and learn what is expected of them as members of a Christian community. Throughout this experience, they learn habits of listening, prayer and careful attention that we will continue to build on as they grow.
Nursery care is provided on the 1st floor of the Rectory during the Sunday school hour (10:30 to 11:30 a.m.) The nursery is available for infants and any children up to age 3 who aren’t quite ready for our 2s & 3s class.
