Holy Land Pilgrimage Discussion
Monday, December 09, 2019, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Have you always wanted to visit the Holy Land? Now is your chance! Bring your questions and come hear about plans for a 12-day pilgrimage May 21–June 1, 2020. Trip highlights include visits to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Jericho, Nazareth, the Jordan River, Capernaum, the Sea of Galilee, the ancient city of Sepphoris and Gethsemane. Overnight lodging will be provided at the Sisters of Nazareth Convent in Nazareth and St. George’s Cathedral guest house in Jerusalem.
We’re also investigating the possibility of an optional “pre-pilgrimage pilgrimage”: An excursion for a smaller group to visit St. Saviour’s School in Zarka, Jordan, as well as Petra or other locations. This additional component to the trip would take place two or three days prior to the Holy Land Pilgrimage.
The pilgrimage is limited to the first 25 people to commit and requires a minimum of 20 pilgrims (high school aged youth accompanied by guardians welcome). If you are interested in learning more, please e-mail The Rev'd Jim Quigley and mark your calendars for this preliminary discussion for all who are interested. Clergy leaders for this trip are the Rev’d Jim Quigley and the Rev’d Luis León. Luis, who with his wife, Lu, are new members of St. Alban’s, first went to the Holy Land with family and friends in 2000. Luis went again in 2008 with Bishop John Chane and led three Holy Land pilgrimages—in 2012, 2014 and 2018—for his former parish, St. John’s, Lafayette Square. Jim recently spent six weeks studying at the Tantur Ecumenical Institute in Jerusalem as one component of his Lilly funded sabbatical.
Anyone interested in learning more is invited to join the discussion on Monday night.
