Forum: The Spirituality of Aging
Sunday, April 15, 2018, 10:15 AM - 11:05 AM
Dorothy Linthicum is the speaker at this second forum in our Aging Faithfully series. Dorothy serves on the faculty at The Virginia Theological Seminary and serves a program coordinator in the Center for the Ministry of Teaching. She has contributed chapters about spirituality for older adults in The Seasons of Adult Formation, and blogs at Building Faith. Dorothy's new book, Redeeming Dementia, coauthored by Dr. Janice Hicks, explores the relationship between ministry and the theology of personhood, the science of dementia, and the spirituality of older people with dementia and their caregivers. It will be released by Church Publishing this fall.
Dorothy has studied and taught courses and workshops about older adult spirituality and ministry at the seminary, at conferences, and for churches and dioceses. As we grow older, spirituality can be a part of the losses and challenges of aging. Dorothy will lead us in exploring ways to deepen our spiritual natures through interactions within community, accepting who and what we are, and finding time to be with God. She will also talk about how ministry to older adults can enrich not only the lives of elders, but also congregants of all ages.
