Forums: Book of Common Prayer
The history and future of the Book of Common Prayer are the focus of two Sunday forums.
This two-part forum series looks at the Book of Common Prayer from two different perspectives.
Sunday, August 5--The Poet and the Psalms
Did you know the poet W. H. Auden was involved in revising the 1928 version of the Book of Common Prayer? Poet J. Chester Johnson replaced Auden on the committee reworking the psalter for the 1979 BCP.
At this forum, he discussed the experience, which he also relates in his new book, "Auden, the Psalms, and Me."
Sunday, August 19--What Happened at General Convention?
The triennial meeting of the Episcopal Church this summer passed a record number of resolutions. Among them, resolutions revising the Book of Common Prayer and creating alternative liturgies, as well as readmitting the Episcopal Church of Cuba as a diocese.
The head of the Diocese of Washington deputation, the Rev'd Betsy Gonzalez, and deputation members Kemah Camara and Matthew Taylor brought us up to date.
