ASP Mission 2017
Our annual ASP mission trip took us to Southwestern Virginia where, as usual, we got more than we gave.
A dozen youth and adults from St. Alban's traveled to Wise County, Virginia, in June to work with the Appalachia Service Project, helping make homes warmer, safer and drier. We stayed in a high school along with other volunteers from the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and two other church groups. Our teams worked on six projects over the course of the week.
Most of the St. Alban's contingent had been to ASP before. Two members of our team were first-time missioners. What made them all want to go and what did they learn?
ASP staffers are typically college students who work with construction consultants to select projects for volunteers. They supply direction and materials. Our teams supply the elbow grease.
Read what some of previous youth missioners had to say about the experience, and re-read Jo Turner's Daily Cup about the impact of the experience on adults.
